Ketel One vodka
Ketel One Vodka pride themselves on promoting their Vodka via bartenders, for many years it has been among my personal favourites and personally I feel Ketel One is the best vodka for making Martini's.
The thing about Ketel One it is so full of flavour yet is also super elegant and smooth, unlike many modern Vodka's it is produced in a pot still, the big benefit is flavour, lots of flavour.
The Noise is of elegant citrus, the scent of rain, light star anise and grain aromas; it is a very subtle Boutique unlike most vodka’s that smell of paint striper.
The taste of Ketel One is medium bodied, smooth, beautifully Balanced with flavours of Anise, Apricot, apple, other fruity flavour that I can’t distinguish, Citrus, light hint of Pepper, there are so many stylish layers of flavour that include spices, grains and a lovely mild dryness.
Ketel One Vodka is distilled from pure wheat and made in the Netherlands. It is distilled in an alembic copper pot, a method typically reserved for fine scotches and cognacs. According to its label, it is handmade in small batches using traditional recipes at the Nolet Distillery (founded in 1691) in Holland. The alcohol content of this spirit is 40%. They also make a Citron flavoured vodka.
Ketel One was first distilled by Joannes Nolet in the town of Schiedam, the Netherlands. The Distillery is still in the hands of the Nolet family, 10 generations later. Ketel One was originally a Genever distillery and in fact Ketel One Genever is still a popular drink in the Netherlands but has not made much headway in the export market.
I first came across Ketel One in London, the premium Vodka revolution had not yet hit Australia, Absolut Vodka was Top shelf Vodka in Sydney, and I had never imagined that you could sip straight Vodka and enjoy it. How this industry has changed and today Ketel One is still a bit of a secret, they make the vodka in small batches and will never be able to keep pace with other mass produced premium vodka's.
In my personal option the real genius of Ketel one is in the martini, also if your travelling through Holland grab a bottle of there Genever which is also a beautiful full flavoured spirit, if you like a real strong Juniper taste.
I have spent a lot of time in Holland over the year's as I have family in Amsterdam and Ketel One is one of the Drinks I enjoy on each visit
