Ron Zacapa Rum has built up once incredible legend. Its dominance of rum and spirit tasting competitions is so complete, it is now just used as a standard for all other Rums to follow, is it reputation, legend or just the Mythology of Ron Zacapa Rums.

Ron Zacapa was the first rum ever to be inducted into the International Rum Festival's Hall of Fame in 2003 after Ron Zacapa Rum had won first place in the premium rums category 4 years in a row at the International Rum Festival 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001

Guatemala is producing some of the most amazing premium Rums on the market at present, they are unique super smooth, rich in character, the reason for this is largely because of the unique conditions that Guatemalan sugar cane is grown in. The coast of Guatemala on the Pacific Ocean side is super fertile volcanic soil perfect for creating extra juicy sugar cane.

Ron Zacapa Rum is created by distilled only the first pressing of the sugar cane, absolutely no second press or molasses is used. Zacapa Rum is aged at a place named "the house in the clouds" in the Guatemalan Highlands in the Mountain region of Quetzaltenango, 2400 meters above sea level with an average temperature of below 20 degrees centigrade. Most Caribbean Rum can only have minimal aging due to the alcohol being evaporated in the hot climate, in these cool mountains Ron Zacapa Rum ages for long periods in casks previously used to age bourbons, Sherries and fine wine, with very little loss of alcohol to evaporation. At Ron Zacapa this process is overseen by master blender Lorena Vazquez, whilst the rum is being cellared, the environment is regularly monitored, for temperature, humidity, light and sound levels. This cool climate aging of Guatemalan Rums give them their uniqueness, from there more famous Caribbean neighbours.

Ron Zacapa rum is aged using the Solera method most commonly used in making Sherry but becoming more popular with many spirits. The Solera method is simply replacing any of the Rum in the cask that has evaporated with Rum from the year before. So a Rum Barrelled in 2009 will be topped up with the batch from 2010.

The nose of the Ron Zacapa is very complex yet sensitive; it is very stylish and elegant like a Cognac, not your typical Rum. As you swirl the glass a complex richness of flavour hit your nose seductively, tropical fruits, fig, blackcurrant, sweet molasses, cocoa, chocolate, and hints of orange and mandarin, herbs, Tobacco, Chestnut, Almonds. The finish is of Tobacco, Cinnamon, spices, pepper, strawberries and cherries.

After three years the used barrels are emptied and then recharged while the contents are married with other rums in the first part of the Zacapa Solera system. Scraping and recharging the used barrels give the rum a sweeter flavour from the newly charred wood.

The Nose gives rich scents of toffee, oak, vanilla, orange, mandarin, light hints of grapefruit, dates, apples, chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, hint of cloves, caramel, brown sugar, butter, nutty accents, The aroma of this Rum is of pure delightful splendour.
