Water maple martini

Created by Joel Scholtens Lindsay for the Blue Bar, Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi

The combination of Maple Syrup and Watermelon originates to a venue I opened in New Delhi named Zest.

I created a watermelon Julep using Jack Daniels as no Bourbon was available and used maple syrup instead of sugar.

The Watermelon and Maple syrup worked beautifully, unfortunately the cocktail was nice but wasn't exceptional.

I felt the combination would work better in a simpler cocktail.

Maple Syrup always brings back memories of my Father taking my sister and I to a Sydney Icon Pancakes at the Rocks, its funny how sometimes simple flavours can bring you wonderful memories.

The Indians actually have very sweet tastes when it comes to cocktails and a Colleague Manoj Bhutia actually suggested when he saw me using Maple Syrup in Cocktails, that I should make a maple syrup Martini, it will be a big hit. It sounded a bit sickly to me.

The evolution of a Cocktail can be a bit strange at times; the next chapter for this cocktail was mixed with vodka in a shot glass made of ice.

It was a massive hit.

Still for me I felt the drink could be better, I tried it with Vanilla Vodka and the puzzle was almost complete, the Vanilla added another taste dimension to the Maple Syrup.

What I feel is the final piece of the evolution of the Water Maple Martini is a sexy Pop Rock Candy Rim, it gives the drink a WOW factor.

The Water Maple Martini is designed to be a bizarre exciting variation to a Watermelon Martini. I think the drink will surprise some people as it's not as sweet as you would expect and I have also not gone heavy on the Vodka as I think the Water Maple Martini tastes best as a light refreshing Martini.
